Penelope Cruz’s Last Minute Wardrobe Snafu: Lost Luggage!

Penelope Cruz may have looked red-hot when she arrived at the U.K. premiere of Broken Embraces today in a flame-colored suit that stole the show, but it turns out that she had to let fate play her fashion stylist for the event after her checked baggage went missing on a flight from Madrid to London. Fortunately, like any Hollywood fashionista, the actress was far from unprepared — and went with a stunning Bottega Veneta suit and wedges that she’d stashed in her carry-on. “I think someone took it. I think it was taken by someone with a fetish,” her director, and long-time mentor, Pedro Almodovar joked to reporters of the lost-luggage. Despite the set-back, however, the premiere was a huge success, and a high-spirited Penelope couldn’t help being captivated her surroundings at the grand Somerset House on the banks of the River Thames. “It is beautiful here — this is my first time here,” she said of the venue, which has been used to film James Bond scenes in the past. And while Somerset House might have been new to her, working with the Almodovar is old hat for the actress, whom she first met when she was 17. “I am working with one of my best friends but something changes when shooting starts and he becomes my director. I feel we are constantly moving,” she told reporters. “He is a genius.” Although she attended the premiere solo, her boyfriend, fellow Spanish actor Javier Bardem, was on her mind, and she revealed that the two took in an “incredible” show by U2 while in Paris earlier this month. “I have seen them many times,” she said, and added that she and Javier had even stayed with Bono at his home on the French Riviera for a few nights after the concert. Wonder if her luggage made it that night?–By Simon Perry

Ciara on Her New Short Do: “I’m Just Having Fun!”

After Twittering about her new super short summer do, Ciara  gave a little more insight on the inspiration behind losing her ultra-long locks.  “We went in, we played around, we created something fun and that’s where it came from,” she tells PEOPLE of her new hairstyle created by hair stylist Kiyah Wright.  Looking stunning in a red Marchesa jumpsuit, the “Love, Sex and Magic” singer hosted the Express TXT L8TR Campaign party Wednesday night at Nobu West Hollywood to help increase awareness on the dangers of texting while driving. But her dramatic look was the question of the night.  “I have to admit I love my hair long,” confessed Ciara, “but trying shorter is fun too because with fashion and with women, our hair is our way of us expressing ourselves.  That’s kind of what I felt and that’s what inspired me to go short. I was like, ‘I just want to go short today,’ so I said to my hair stylist, [Kiyah], ‘what can we do?’”  And voila!  The new look emerged — along with some low maintenance perks and an obsession with a whole new product: the Tancho Stick, ($11 at amazon.com).  “You take it and you piece your hair.  This hair takes ten minutes to fix.  I wake up in the morning and I don’t have to rush as much.” Stylish and easy — does it get better than that? Tell us: Would you go as short as Ciara? –Shruti Dhalwala

Gwyneth Paltrow on GOOP: “Corporate America is Knocking On My Door!”

Move over, O magazine and Martha Stewart Living. GOOP, Gwyneth Paltrow’s weekly newsletter packed with clean and green advice on loving, living and cooking is a “big success,” according to Paltrow.  “It’s crazy.  . . . crazy!” Paltrow chatted exclusively with PEOPLE about the site at the Children of the City‘s Champions of Hope Benefit Gala at the Tribeca Rooftop last night in N.Y.C.  “I just love it. Corporate America is knocking at my door. . . . ‘Will you hawk my product’?” The answer is clearly no for the star’s very personal project, which even derives its name from her initials G.P. “It started in such an organic way.  People ask me, ‘What is it?  What are you doing?’ And I don’t know.  I did it, am doing it  . . . and I love doing it. It is really just a place to disseminate good information,” said the Preen-clad Paltrow. “People are so grateful that it’s free.  It’s just nice to share what you have.  And I have all this great information. It’s just a gift.  People want me to do all this other stuff. But right now, I just really love doing the site.  I love thinking about the letters, what I’m going to write about, what kind of information we can put in there.”

So will Paltrow follow in Paul Newman’s footsteps with his Newman’s Own empire, which raised $250 million dollars in his lifetime for charity? “We’ll do something and give it all back,” she tells PEOPLE exclusively.  But for now, the site, which she creates along with two hands-on staffers, has only two cardinal rules. “No bribes.  Also, I won’t say anything negative.  If I eat somewhere or stay somewhere and it’s horrible, I won’t talk about it,” she said. While she has addressed everything from cleansing to frenemies on the site, she’s not about to take on rumors about her personal life on GOOP. “I never address that side of me there,” she insisted. “It is really a place to disseminate good information.” And it’s not the only way that Paltrow is doing good — she is also a board member of Robin Hood, an organization in part founded by the late John F. Kennedy Jr., which raises money from successful New Yorkers and donates to causes such as Children of the City, the beneficiary of last night’s gala .  “They’re really changing lives for kids in New York City at the poverty level or below. They do amazing work. I’m from New York, so any time I get approached to help in a great organization, I can never say no.” Click here to check out GOOP.com for yourself! – Jeffrey Slonim

Vanessa Hudgens Lets InStyle Make Over Her Look

As one of Hollywood’s most beautiful — and most fashionable — young stars, Vanessa Hudgens is the last person we can think of in need of a style transformation — but that’s precisely what she gets as the cover star of InStyle’s special Makeover issue. In addition to stepping in front of the lens to try out new beauty looks that range from casually undone to all done up — the High School Musical 3 star does a little style time-traveling, sharing twelve photos that reveal her own beauty transformation from freshly-scrubbed teen to sophisticated Hollywood starlet. Despite still being just 20 years old, she tells the magazine that beauty change-ups are nothing new to her. “I went through my red lipstick stage at 10,” she says. “My mom really let me play, which in the long run has given me the confidence to experiment. Now I wear everything — reds, corals, nudes.” But as any beauty maven knows, getting experimental doesn’t come without a few beauty disasters, particularly when it comes to hair. “I had short hair only once in my life,” she reveals. “When I was 7, I cut it myself, which I think every girl does — once. I gave myself a bob and bangs. It was really sad. I looked like I had worms on my head.” Learn what else Vanessa has to say about her own style icons, style horror stories and celebrity fascinations in the new issue, on stands now.
